The subject of this bachelor’s thesis was to design a storage solution for cycling helmets and accessories in public spaces. The project was made as an assignment to Finture Oy. During the last couple of years, the popularity of cycling has been growing, and this has highlighted the need for the development of cycling more prominently than before. People want to support cycling and encourage ways to allow them to move safely by providing useful additional services related to cycling.
At the beginning of the work, I did background research about existing storage solutions and benchmarking, this process was followed by a user survey of stakeholders and a separate interview. Later on I did more research of different materials and RFID locks. Ideation, sketching, and character models went hand in hand within the design process. A three-dimensional model was designed, which was also used to build two prototypes.
